that moon, that sky

(Charlotte, Sep 2012)

do you remember that moon? that sky? those clouds? that 4th of july?

no. i remember, you didn’t look.

i had turned my head to see. set pieces. the sky entire. waiting. do you remember my lines?

no. i remember, you tittered right on cue.

i looked away to see. the stage cleared. but for that moon (he’s seen this all before).

the grandest moment. my timeless heart. my hopeless gesture. those tiniest words. do you remember my eyes?

no. i remember, you swam to me. slowly folded over my world. with a grin.

“how do you want it?” at least you let me write the ending. on with the show.

climax. denouement. curtain. cheers. always leave them wanting more.

but don’t remember that moon. that sky. those clouds. that 4th of july.

that grandest moment. my timeless heart. that hopeless gesture. those tiniest words.
